The Mothers' Union is a worldwide organisation (global website), with presence in seventy-eight countries, providing Christian care for families. In the parish of Crookham, we send cards to all babies baptised at Christ Church on the first anniversary of their baptism.
The Mothers' Union is open to any Christian, man or woman, who supports the five Mothers' Union objectives. The aim and purpose is to demonstrate the Christian faith in action by the transformation of communities worldwide through the nurture of family in its many forms.
The five objectives are:
-
Supporting and promoting marriage.
-
Encouraging parents in their role to develop the faith of their children.
-
Maintaining a worldwide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service.
-
Promoting conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children.
-
Helping those whose family life has met with adversity.
The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 2:30pm for the service of Holy Communion, with the main meeting starting at 3pm. The meetings usually include a guest speaker. Meetings are open to anyone who would like to join the Mothers' Union. Talk to the group leader, or the secretary about becoming enrolled.
We carry out fundraising for Mothers' Union projects and in May there will be a special tea, with a Bring and Buy sale of cakes and plants to raise money in aid of the Worldwide Relief Fund. A full programme is on display on the church notice board.
Throughout the year, the Mothers' union frequently provides refreshments for church events, for example:
-
Christmas Tea.
-
Garden Fete.
-
Bereavement Service.
We also take part in diocesan and deanery events, perform social visits to those living alone, and visits to women in prison.
